3-0 Day for Singles at Rebel Classic

OXFORD, Miss. – Three strong singles performances by the University of Arkansas Razorback women’s tennis team shined bright Friday at the Rebel Classic.

Senior Nanar Airapetian, along with freshmen Emily Carbone and Kate Lukomskaya, completed a 3-0 day in singles advancing to the second round on Saturday. Action at the Rebel Classic will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

“After getting off to a slow start in doubles, it was good to see our team bounce back with three strong wins in singles,” said Razorback assistant coach Jeroen Joling.

In the first flight, Airapetian shot down South Alabama’s Erica Krisan, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. Airapetian will face Valeriya Makarycheva from Mississippi State on Saturday.

“Nanar (Airapetian) is really finding her game,” Joling said. “Her match today was very impressive.”

Carbone improved her overall record as a Razorback to 8-0 with a, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, over Louisiana-Lafayette’s No. 1 player, Julie Mazinova, in the top-flight. Carbone’s win sets up a match against South Alabama’s Michaela Babicova on Saturday. Lukomskaya completed the sweep of singles in the second flight by dropping Rone’ van Wyk from Arkansas State in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-4. Lukomskaya’s second-round match on Saturday will come against Milou Israel from Louisiana-Lafayette.
