A Chance For Redemption

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team faces the first of three Southeastern Conference teams in a rematch playing at Georgia on Thursday in a 6 p.m. (CT) tip.

The Razorbacks (16-10, 5-7 SEC) and Bulldogs (15-10, 6-6 SEC) first met Jan. 31 with Georgia escaping with a comeback victory in Bud Walton Arena. Arkansas held the advantage for most of the contest getting 28 points from leading scorer Chelsea Dungee and 19 points from senior Malica Monk in the first meeting.

Georgia rallied in the third quarter and was able to hold on for the win. The Bulldogs have gone 2-2 since that contest while the Razorbacks have dropped four in a row.

Dungee continues to play well for Arkansas. The redshirt sophomore enters the week averaging 19.0 points per game. She has scored in double figures in 23 of Arkansas’ 26 games including 20+ points in four of the last five contests.

The Razorbacks got another double figure effort from senior leader Malica Monk at No. 17 Kentucky last week and junior Kiara Williams had a career day with 14 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks in Lexington.

Arkansas will need even more balance to combat Georgia’s starters with three Bulldogs averaging double digits this year. Caliya Robinson leads the team with 14.1 ppg and 8.0 rpg with teammates Gabby Connally (12.4 ppg) and Taja Cole (10.7 ppg) also in double figures.

Dungee and the Razorbacks return home hosting Ole Miss Feb. 24 on Senior Day and Missouri Feb. 28 in the final two games of the regular season. Arkansas has an early-season win over the Rebels and dropped the contest at Missouri in January.

The regular season concludes at Texas A&M March 3, before Arkansas begins postseason play at the SEC Championship March 6-10 in Greenville, S.C.
