Ambrose Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman Damario Ambrose has been named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in Arkansas’ 66-7 win over North Texas last weekend.

Ambrose tied for the team lead in tackles after racking up a career-high eight stops against the Mean Green. He made four solo and four assisted tackles in the Hogs’ dominating defensive outing. Ambrose earned 1.5 tackles for loss (-8) and a half sack (-6). He helped Arkansas hold North Texas to only seven points and 140 yards rushing.

“I think Saturday night we saw some of the great potential Damario has on the defensive front,” Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. “He has to become more consistent in his assignments, but you never have to worry about him going full speed. You never have to worry about his effort. If he can continue to play with that effort and continue to improve on his fundamentals he will be a good football player for us.”

Ambrose becomes the first Razorback freshman to capture league defensive player of the week honors. The SEC began recognizing a defensive lineman each week beginning with the 2004 season.
