Arkansas Hosts No. 15 MSU To Begin Weekend

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark – The Arkansas men’s tennis team played under the lights for the first time on the newly renovated outdoor courts at the Billingsley Tennis Center and will do so again with three home matches this weekend. Arkansas (10-8, 2-3 SEC) will host No. 15 Mississippi State on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Auburn and Saint Louis in a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 6 p.m.

Arkansas went 2-2 this past weekend, falling to South Carolina and No. 16 Florida by the same 4-3 score, before coming back to sweep a doubleheader with two 5-0 wins over Omaha to conclude the weekend.

Mike Redlicki (No. 10) and Jose Salazar (No. 26) remain in the latest Oracle/ITA national singles rankings, and the duo also moved up 19 spots to No. 37 in the national doubles rankings.

Redlicki is 23-7 overall and 14-4 against ranked opponents in singles play, while Salazar is 23-6 overall and 6-3 against ranked opponents. Salazar is a team-best 12-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 against ranked opponents this spring. The duo of Redlicki and Salazar is 6-4 this spring and 9-5 overall in doubles play.

The trio of Salazar, Johan den Toom and Oscar Mesquida all improved to 4-1 in singles matches in SEC play and all eclipsed the 10-win mark in singles play this spring.

Mississippi State (13-3, 4-0 SEC) moved up six spots to No. 15 in the national team rankings and is the fourth-highest SEC team. The Bulldogs are also one of three remaining teams undefeated in SEC play this season.

MSU boasts two ranked singles players in No. 8 Nuno Borges, the second-highest ranked player in the SEC, and No. 110 Strahinja Rakic and one ranked doubles team in No. 31 Trevor Foshey and Niclas Braun.

Auburn (11-7, 2-2 SEC) has wins over Alabama and Vanderbilt and losses to Mississippi State and Kentucky. The Tigers moved back into the national team rankings at No. 44 and have one ranked singles player in No. 67 Maxime Hinnisdaels, and one doubles team in No. 18 Hinnisdaels and Conner Huertas. Saint Louis is 6-7 overall this season.

Arkansas will then play its next three matches on the road, all in SEC play, against LSU (March 31), No. 8 Texas A&M (April 2) and Ole Miss (April 7), before returning home for a quad match against Jackson State on April 9.
