Arkansas In Seventh At SEC Championship

Round 1 Results

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – High winds wreaked havoc on day one of the 2016 SEC Championship, as Arkansas posted an 8-over 288 to sit in seventh place at the par 70 Seaside course at Sea Island Golf Club.

No. 4 Georgia and Kentucky find themselves atop the leaderboard after posting rounds of 3-under 277. The Bulldogs and Wildcats are the only teams in the field under par as Florida (+3) is third, while Vanderbilt (+6) and Tennessee (+6) are tied for fourth.

In his first career round at the SEC Championship, freshman Charles Kim paced the team with a 1-over 34-37 – 71, good for T-17th overall. After opening the day with a bogey, he bounced back and chipped in for birdie on No. 2, before adding another birdie on the fifth hole to make the turn at 1-under.

Taylor Moore and Nicolas Echavarria are tied for 22nd overall after posting nearly identical rounds. They each shot 2-over 37-35 – 72 and had two birdies and four bogeys on the day. Echavarria notched a birdie on each side, while Moore saved both of his for the back side.

Alvaro Ortiz birdied the opening hole of the day and shot a 3-over 36-37 – 73, good for T-31st overall. Kolton Crawford rounded out the team with an 8-over 40-38 – 78.

Arkansas will go off the No. 1 tee Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. EDT, playing with Missouri and Auburn.
