Arkansas Makes Afternoon Surge In Dallas

DALLAS – The No. 17 Arkansas men’s golf team opened play with 36 holes on Monday at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and used an afternoon 8-under 276 to surge up the leaderboard at Royal Oaks Country Club.

After posting a 1-under 283 in the morning round, the Razorbacks came back in the afternoon and went to work, recording 20 birdies and one eagle to jump four spots in the standings up to second place overall.

Tournament host and No. 7 Baylor is pacing the field, leading the event by 13 shots at 22-under, while the Razorbacks are second at 9-under. Liberty (-8), Minnesota (-7) and New Mexico (-7) round out the top five.

Sophomore William Buhl used an opening-round 3-under 68 to set the pace early and he leads the team at 3-under overall and T-11th in the field of 73 players. Luis Garza and Alvaro Ortiz led the charge in the afternoon, combining to shoot 9-under as Garza carded a 4-under 67 and Ortiz signed for a 5-under 66.

Sophomore Mason Overstreet provided two counting scores at 70-72 – 142 (E) and sits T-30th overall, while freshman Landon Ernst rounds out the team scoring at T-45th. Freshman Kyle Robinson is competing as an individual and is T-49th overall at 4-over.

Arkansas will tee off Tuesday morning in the final round at 8:15 a.m.
