Arkansas diving travels to Zone Meet

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The University of Arkansas diving squad travels to Austin, Texas, to compete in the NCAA Zone ‘D’ Diving Meet beginning Friday, March 2. The meet is held at the University of Texas at Austin’s Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center and is one of five regional-diving meets scheduled this weekend to determine the diving qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The other meets are held at Rutgers University, the University of Georgia and the University of Michigan; the U.S. Air Force Academy will also host a zone diving meet in Oklahoma City, Okla. Sophomore Kellyn Williams goes to her first zone competition after qualifying on the three-meter springboard with a 298.75 against Drury, Jan. 20. Sophomore Madison Palmer makes her second trip while junior Brieanne Kushner makes her third. Palmer and Kushner qualified in the one- and three-meter events. Arkansas diving coach Scott Reich said the Lady Razorbacks have the opportunity to reach the NCAA Championships if they are confident in their performances. “If they are consistent they’ve got a chance,” he said. “They are young, but talented enough to make it to the NCAA Championships.” Last year Kushner made the finals of the one-meter and three-meter springboard events, finishing 12th and 11th, respectively, but did not qualify for the NCAA Championships. Palmer and Williams look to make it to the finals and beyond for the first time at this year’s meet.
