Arkansas falls in three at Kentucky

Jump toKentucky LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team suffered a three-game Southeastern Conference loss at Kentucky Friday. Arkansas fell to 6-9 overall and remains winless in the SEC with an 0-5 mark after the 22-30, 21-30, 23-30 loss to the Wildcats (1-3, 5-1 SEC). Arkansas has lost it’s last eight matches including five of the last six in three games. Unforced errors continue to haunt the team. “We are trying to work it out,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. Right now, no one is immune – it’s happening to seniors as well as freshmen. We are just having to continue to work to get ourselves out of the funk.” The recent stretch of losses has been dotted with moments of good play and streaky point-scoring and those trends continued Friday. The Lady’Backs were close to Kentucky until the mid-point of each game but big Wildcat runs kept Arkansas from scoring and deflated the team’s momentum. Arkansas had just one player, Heather Royal, in double-figures with 10 kills. Royal added four digs and a block. Junior Christina Lawrence and freshman Sarah Freudenrich had seven kills each with Freudenrich adding six blocks in a nine-block team performance. Arkansas hit just .129 for the match and allowed seven Kentucky service aces while getting just one of its own. Kentucky had three players in double-figures paced by Queen Nzenwa with 17. Nzenwa had no hitting errors and hit .654. SEC action continues for Arkansas as the Lady’Backs travel to Tennessee Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. match. The contest will air live in the Northwest Arkansas area on KXUA, 88.3 FM. For more information about Arkansas volleyball, log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
