Arkansas hosts Drury on Senior Day

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team celebrates Senior Day in the final regular season meet of the 2006-07 season hosting Drury Saturday at noon in the Arkansas Natatorium. Arkansas celebrates the accomplishments of seniors Mariann Fulop and Kristen Thibodeaux prior to the start of the meet. Moreover, the Lady Razorbacks look for another victory tomorrow in order to even their dual-meet record to 4-4. “I think Drury is the top non-conference opponent that we’re competing against,” said head coach Jeff Poppell. “They beat Missouri State pretty handedly and they’re arguably the favorites to win the Division II national championships this year. They’re strong and have some outstanding individuals in certain events. I anticipate some very, very close races this weekend.” Drury enters the meet after a 142-101 victory over Missouri State. Arkansas comes off of two wins in its last home meet versus Denver and Missouri State. The Lady’Backs dominated on the boards and won eight events. Arkansas leads the all-time series 14-3 and won the last meeting in 2005. After weeks of intense training, Poppell said the Lady’Backs also look to fix any errors this weekend in order to prepare for the Southeastern Conference Championships only two weeks away. “This week is our last opportunity to fine tune in terms of a meet environment,” said Poppell. The Lady’Backs compete in the SEC Diving Championships Feb. 2-4, while the swimming championships are held Feb. 7-10.
