Arkansas hosts NCAA Mideast Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 18 Arkansas Lady Razorback track and field will host the 2008 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, Friday-Saturday, May 30-31, at John McDonnell Field.

Field events will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday with running events starting at 3 p.m. On Saturday, field events will begin at 11 a.m. with running events following at 5 p.m. Gates will open one hour prior to the first event. Arkansas sits at No. 18 in the current USTFCCCA ranking. The Lady’Backs are just one of six SEC schools ranked in the top 25 this week. The Lady’Backs will enter 20 athletes in 11 events this weekend.

While Arkansas hosts the Mideast Championships, Florida State is hosting the East Championships, Nebraska the Midwest Championships and Cal State Northridge the West Championships.

Arkansas has had success at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships finishing among the top five four times in five competitions and never finishing worse than 10th.

Arkansas athletes hold the region’s top mark in three events in Dacia Barr (1,500 meters, 5,000 meters) and Katie Stripling. Barr will only compete in the 1,500 meters at the Mideast Championships.

A top five finish in any individual event and a top three finish in a relay automatically qualifies for the NCAA Championships, in Des Moines, Iowa, next month. To be considered for an at-large bid, an individual athlete must finish sixth through 12th and relays must finish fourth through eighth.
