Arkansas Moves Up Again in FILA Tennis Rankings

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ tennis team has not played a match in the last week, but that did not keep the Razorbacks from moving up in the latest FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, which were released on Tuesday.

Arkansas is No. 16 in this week’s rankings after moving from No. 20 to No. 17 in last week’s poll.

The Razorbacks, who have been off since March 12, are 11-5 this season with five wins over ranked teams. The Hogs have wins over No. 11 Virginia, No. 25 Tulsa twice, No. 33 Tennessee and No. 44 Oklahoma. All of UA’s losses are to teams currently ranked in the top 20 – No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Illinois, No. 5 Texas, No. 19 LSU and No. 20 Kentucky.

Head coach Robert Cox’s club features four individuals and one doubles team in the national rankings.

Senior Adrians Zguns moved up from No. 15 to No. 13 in the country. Senior Matt Roberts is No. 49, senior Rohan Gajjar is up to No. 74 from No. 82 and freshman Blake Strode is No. 102.

Zguns leads the Razorbacks with a 20-4 singles record. Roberts is 21-5, Strode 17-4 and Gajjar 14-6. They get help in the lineup from sophomores Jimmy Khougassian (11-6) and Colin Mascall (9-5).

In doubles, Zguns and Strode are 9-3 and ranked No. 40. In addition, Gajjar and Roberts are 9-6.

Arkansas plays host to No. 8 Florida on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and No. 49 South Carolina on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Both matches are scheduled to be played at the Wal-Mart Health and Tennis Center in Bentonville (right off Exit 86 on I-540) due to construction at the UA Outdoor Tennis Complex. If weather prevents the matches from being played outside, the matches will be moved to the Dills Indoor Tennis Center on the UA campus.
