Arkansas volleyball at Alabama Sunday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team is looking to return to the win column but faces a tough Southeastern Conference challenge a t Alabama Sunday. Arkansas fell to 6-7 overall and is winless at 0-3 in the SEC after a tough, extra-frame loss at Mississippi State Friday. The Crimson Tide enter the weekend 6-6 overall and 3-0 ranking among the SEC leaders. “Every road match in the SEC is a tough one,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. “Alabama has a great atmosphere and loud environment. It will be a real battle at their place.” Arkansas has had its hands full with unforced errors and mistakes on its own side of the net. Youth and inexperience have played some part in the team’s struggles but the Lady’Backs are ready to make a turn as they approach the mid-point of the 2007 season. Senior Jessica Dorrell surpassed the 1,000-kill mark at Mississippi State with her fourth kill of the evening. She became just the 12th player in school history to reach that milestone. Junior Christina Lawrence and senior libero Ashley Miller have also been among the statistical leaders at their positions this year. Freshman Sarah Freudenrich and junior Karen Tang have played well in recent matches at middle blocker and freshman Heather Royal on the outside. “We have a lot of individual talent,” said Poole. “We are still looking for ways to come together on the court.” Arkansas continues its SEC road schedule next weekend traveling to Kentucky and Tennessee. The Lady’Backs return home Oct. 5 hosting Georgia and Oct. 7 against Auburn. For more information about Arkansas volleyball log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
