Auburn and Arkansas close out the SEC regular season

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas Lady Razorbacks close out the 2007-08 regular season with a road game at Auburn on Sunday afternoon.

Tipoff at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum is 2 p.m. for Arkansas (17-11) and Auburn (18-10).

While the teams have similar overall records, the two are potential first-round Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament opponents. Arkansas is locked into the 11th seed, and will play in the 9 p.m. game on the first day of next Thursday’s event.

Auburn stands at 6-7 in SEC play, going 3-3 since defeating Arkansas earlier in the season. The two teams are paired as SEC West Division rotating partners this season and next. The Tigers enter Sunday’s game tied with Ole Miss at sixth in the league standings, but would be the seventh-seed based on the win by the Lady Rebels over Auburn earlier.

Auburn gets to be Arkansas’ first round opponent if the Tigers beat the Lady’Backs and the Lady Rebels defeat the Florida Gators on Sunday. The UF-UM game is at Oxford, also at 2 p.m.

Arkansas closes the regular season with back-to-back road games for the first time as a SEC member since the 1999 season. Ayana Brereton continues to lead the team in scoring with 11.6 ppg, followed this week by Whitney Jones with 10.5 ppg and Brittney Vaughn with 10.4 ppg.
