Awards continue for Bucknam Ulrey

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After earning Southeastern Conference post-season awards, Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field head coach Chris Bucknam and distance standout junior Dorian Ulrey have been honored with NCAA Regional awards, it was announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) Thursday.

Bucknam has been named the NCAA South Central Head Coach of the Year. In his first season at the helm of the Arkansas track and field program, he led the Razorbacks to the 2009 SEC Indoor Championship title. The Razorbacks picked up event titles by Bucknam-coached athletes in the 800 meters, mile, 3,000 meters and distance medley relay.

The Hogs also earned seven runner-up finishes at the SEC meet. Razorbacks have run the top times in the SEC in the 800 meters, mile, 3,000 meters and DMR during this indoor season. Arkansas athletes have recorded nine NCAA provisional and five automatic qualifying times, establishing a new school record in the DMR that leads the nation.

Ulrey has been named the NCAA South Central Runner of the Year. He was the 2009 SEC Indoor Champion in the mile and 3,000 meters running the top times in the SEC in the mile (3:57.60), the 3,000 meters (7:50.86) and was the anchor of the Arkansas DMR squad (9:28.35).

Ulrey set the school record as the anchor leg of the DMR with a 3:54 mile split earlier this season. His season bests rank No. 9 on UA’s mile list and No. 6 on UA’s 3K list.

Ulrey was the first Arkansas athlete to win two individual titles at the same SEC indoor championship since 2005. He was named the SEC’s Male Runner of the Year.
