Fassi, Uriell Lead No. 8 Arkansas To Third Place

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Arkansas freshman Maria Fassi fired a final round 69 leading the eighth-ranked Razorback women’s golf team to a third-place finish at the Southeastern Conference Championship at the Legacy Course in Birmingham, Alabama, Sunday.

Fassi tied for fifth place overall shooting 75-71-69 — 215, the second-best finish by a Razorback freshman in program history. Sophomore Alana Uriell was also under par in the final round shooting 79-71-70 — 220 tying for 13th overall. The duo paced Arkansas to a final round 288 as the Razorbacks rallied from an eighth-place start, up the leaderboard to finish third shooting 300-294-288 — 882.

Fassi’s scorecard was littered with six birdies and three bogeys for her three-under 69.

Junior Summar Roachell came back from a second-round 82 counting a third-round one-over 73 Sunday. Roachell shot 77-82-73 — 232 and tied for 48th overall. Senior Regina Plasencia and freshman Cara Gorlei both finished with final round 76s and three-day totals of 226 to tie for 31st. Plasencia posted scores of 72-78-76 — 226 while Gorlei shot 76-74-76 — 226. Gorlei carded an eight on No. 10.

After digging themselves a large hole after round one, the Razorbacks chipped away at the leaderboard skipping over No. 25 Texas A&M and No. 5 Georgia while staying ahead of No. 23 South Carolina in the final round.

As a team, the Razorbacks were solid on the par five holes, playing them eight-under, the third-best performance in the field. Fassi led the field on the par four holes averaging 3.87 for the three-day event. She also led the field with 15 birdies.

The Razorbacks await their postseason NCAA Regional Selection next Monday on The Golf Channel.
