Former Track Hogs Shine in Monaco

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Razorbacks Alistair Cragg and Fayetteville native Wallace Spearmon, Jr. had a stellar day of competition on Wednesday at the Herculis, an IAAF Super Grand Prix event, in Monaco.

Spearmon tied for a title win in the 100 meters with Clement Campbell of Jamaica. Both sprinters crossed the finish line in a time of 10.17. Competing in the 200 meters at the World Championships, Spearmon currently holds the world’s fifth-best 200-meter time run this season, a 19.82 clocked at the USA Championships in June.

Cragg clocked a 7:32.49 3000-meter time, good for a third-place finish. Fresh off a 5,000-meter time of 13:07.10 from the Atletiek Vlaanderenmeet last week in Brasschaa, Belgium, Cragg’s 5K time is currently the fastest by a European runner this season and automatically advanced him to the World Championships in Osaka, Japan, in August.

Both Cragg and Spearmon along with former Hog Tyson Gay and current Razorback J-Mee Samuels will compete one more time at the Norwich Union Super Grand Prix in London before the World Championships begin Aug. 25. For complete results of the Herculis, visit
