Good Year In The Classroom

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas gymnastics team finished 2016 in the top-20 in the gym and 13th in the nation in the classroom according to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women.

The Razorbacks posted a 3.58 team GPA with 71.43 percent of team members at or above the organizations minimum academic requirements. The top-15 finish is the fifth time in program history and the second-consecutive time Arkansas has finished that high in the rankings.

Nine Razorbacks were honored as NACGC/W Scholar-Athletes paced by a pair of 4.0 gymnasts in Mia Bargiacchi and Paige Zaziski. Bargiacchi is a public health major while Zazski is majoring in sport management.

Sydnie Dillard, who graduated in May, is a four-time selection to the all-scholar team. Dillard was also a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team and the All-SEC team during her athletic career.

Amanda Wellick and five other gymnasts, are making their second career appearances on the academic team. Wellick is one of the most decorated gymnasts in program history, earning NACGC/W Postseason Second-Team All-America honors (2016), is a two-time regular season vault All-American (2015, 2016) and competed at the NCAA Championship as an individual (2014, 2016).
