Gregory Breaks School Record Lady'Backs Finish Ninth

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-University of Arkansas freshman Emily Gregory broke a school record in the 200 butterfly with her performance on the final day of the Southeastern Conference Championships in Gainesville, Fla.

Gregory’s time of 2:03.50 broke Alana Hartmann’s record that was set in 1991. Gregory now owns the Arkansas records in both the 100 and 200 fly.

Gregory led the Lady Razorbacks to a ninth-place finish at the conference meet in her first appearance.

Head coach Anne Goodman James said she was very pleased with Gregory’s performances at the SEC championships and sees a bright future for the Burnville, Minn., native.

“Certainly, the star overall for us was Emily Gregory,” Goodman James said. “Emily has made her mark as a freshman and will be a contender in the years ahead.”

Goodman James said she was pleased with the Lady’Backs showing at the championship meet despite the challenges Arkansas faced.

“Our small squad did a solid job with their events, but just didn’t have enough depth to hold our previous placing,” Goodman James said.

The Lady’Back 400-freestyle relay team of sophomore Mariann Fulop, Gregory, senior Lisa Petry and senior Zsuzsa Csobanki set a season best time in the event as they finished ninth.

In her final SEC Championship meet, Petry recorded lifetime best times in all of her events.

The Lady’Backs conclude the regular season with a final opportunity to qualify for NCAAs, as they host the Razorback Invitational Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. inside the Arkansas Natatorium.
