Gymbacks Return To Louisiana For Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Arkansas gymnastics team returns to the Pelican State for the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Friday. The squad is set to compete at 2 p.m. in the regional’s second round.

An All-American
Arkansas sophomore Sophia Carter was honored for her stellar season by being named a Regular Season All-American by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association. She finished the regular season ranked 10th on the event and is Arkansas’ ninth Regular Season All-American and just the second on the floor.

Meeting Again
The Razorbacks are paired up with BYU for the first time since 2011, and will face Utah in its regional for the second time in three years. Arkansas faced Minnesota at Elevate the Stage earlier this season, falling to the Golden Gophers by 0.025 points as Minnesota ended the meet on the floor with a 9.975.

All-SEC Gymbacks
Three gymnasts earned All-SEC accolades at the Southeastern Conference Championships two weeks ago. Freshman Amanda Elswick earned the honor on vault with a career high 9.900, while fellow freshman Kennedy Hambrick posted a 39.375 to earn the honor in the all-around. With a 9.900, sophomore Sarah Shaffer earned All-SEC on the uneven bars.

Top Two Advance
In the first season of the new postseason format, the NCAA Regional Second Round will consist of two quad meets. The top-two finishers of Friday’s semifinals will advance to Saturday’s Regional Final. The top-two from the meet will advance to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Arkansas is seeking its ninth NCAA Championship bid.

Looking Back
Arkansas finished second at the NCAA Columbus Regional in 2018 to advance to the NCAA Championships. Arkansas took two individual regional championships. Over the past 15 regionals, the Razorbacks have taken 16 individual regional titles and advanced to the NCAA Championships eight times.
