Hogs Drop Weekend Finale to No. 13 Maryland

MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 15 University of Arkansas baseball team held an early Sunday afternoon lead at Stanky Field, but No. 13 Maryland put together a nine-run inning to rally past the Razorbacks for a 13-6 victory.

Arkansas dominated the first five inning, stringing together a pair of two-out rallies and getting a two-run home run from Brett McAfee and a three-run blast from Tyler Spoon to take a 6-1 lead. The four-run third inning featured six consecutive two-out hits as the Razorbacks opened up the five run lead.

The Maryland offense was quiet until the sixth inning when it exploded for nine runs on seven hits and benefited from four Arkansas errors to take the lead. The Terps added two more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to complete the comeback and pick up the six-run victory.

Keaton McKinney was stellar in his first collegiate start, tossing 5.0 innings and giving up just three hits and one earned run, while walking two and striking out four.

The Arkansas offense recorded double-digit hits for the sixth straight game to open the season, led by three players with multi-hit games. The Razorbacks have three multiple home run games this year after recording just four all of last season.

Arkansas returns to action Thursday afternoon, hosting California in a four-game series at Baum Stadium. The Razorbacks will play Thursday and Friday at 3:05 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m. on the SEC Network and Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
