Hogs Fall to Memphis in Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The University of Arkansas baseball team (11-12) scored four unanswered runs to tie the game late Tuesday evening, but Memphis (15-4) rallied with an eighth-inning run to steal a 5-4 victory away from the Razorbacks at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Trailing 4-0 after three innings, Arkansas chipped away at the lead as Cullen Gassaway lined an RBI single to left field in the fourth inning and belted a solo home run in the sixth inning to make it 4-2.

Arkansas used some two-out magic in the seventh inning, as Joe Serrano was hit by a pitch and Andrew Benintendi followed and delivered a monster two-run homer to right field to knot the score 4-4. The long ball for Benintendi was his team-leading sixth of the year.

Memphis came right back in the eighth inning and captured the lead again with a triple and double steal to take a 5-4 lead that held true until the final out. The Tigers earned their 10th consecutive victory with the win.

Josh Alberius had one of his best outings of the year, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings and tying his season high with three strikeouts. He has only surrendered three runs in 17.0 innings of work this season. Lance Phillips threw the final 3.0 innings and gave up one run on two hits, while striking out three.

Arkansas and Memphis and tangle again Wednesday evening in Memphis, Tenn., with first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m. at AutoZone Park.
