Hogs Return Home To Host Vanderbilt, Kentucky

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team will return home this weekend to host two matches. The Hogs will host Vanderbilt (Thursday) and Kentucky (Saturday) as the Razorbacks return to Southeastern Conference competition for the first time since March 3.

Returning Home
The Razorbacks are returning home for the first time in 11 days when it hosts Vanderbilt on Thursday. The Hogs are 1-1 in SEC play after splitting its contests against South Carolina and Florida earlier this month. Arkansas’ matches this week will be the last chance to see the Hogs at home until March 30 when they host Mississippi State and UAPB in a Saturday doubleheader.

Scouting Vandy, Kentucky
The Commodores come into Fayetteville 12-4 overall with a 2-2 conference record. Vandy split its league matches last weekend, topping Auburn 6-1 before falling to Alabama 5-2. Kentucky holds a 9-7 record, but has won three of its last four and owns a 3-1 league record. Kentucky is led by Ryotaro Matsumura, who comes in ranked as the No. 44 singles player in the nation.

In The Rankings
Arkansas seniors Oscar Mesquida and Adam Sanjurjo represent the Razorbacks in the latest Oracle/ITA individual rankings. Mesquida made a major move in the most recent rankings, moving up 49 spots to No. 53 in the nation, while Sanjurjo made a re-appearance in the rankings, coming in at No. 124. Mesquida is 6-5 in dual matches, as he owns a 4-5 record against nationally-ranked individuals overall this season.

Looking Ahead
The tennis squad will hit the road after this weekend’s matchups. The Razorbacks will have its first of two three match road trips. The Hogs will face Texas A&M (March 22), LSU (March 24) and Ole Miss (March 28) all on the road before returning home to host Mississippi State and UAPB (March 30).
