Hogs To Wrap Up Fall Season At Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Women’s Golf finishes its fall schedule this weekend, as Head Coach Shauna Taylor’s Hogs head to Athens, Ga. to take part in the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic. The Hogs have enjoyed a very successful fall season thus far, as they are ranked second nationally by Golfweek, trailing only LSU. The field at the event will once again be stacked with stiff competition, though, as 11 of the SEC’s 14 teams will compete, including six that are in Golfweek’s top 10.

Leading the Razorbacks into the fall finale is Brooke Matthews, the best women’s collegiate golfer in the country according to Golfweek’s individual rankings. The redshirt junior from Rogers has been simply sublime through the first two events of the 2020-21 season, winning the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, while placing second at The Ally at Old Waverly. Through two events, Matthews’ stroke average sits at 69.17, which would be the best average in program history over a single season. Additionally, of Matthews’ six rounds played so far, only one has been played above par.

Second in Taylor’s lineup is sophomore Ela Anacona. The sophomore finished in the top five at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, but fell down the leaderboard on the last day of The Ally following a round three 77, finishing tied for 38th. Anacona has fired two rounds under par so far this season.

Sophomore Kajal Mistry holds down the third spot in the lineup, coming off of a 45th place finish at The Ally. Mistry has been good late for the Hogs early in her encore season – she is averaging 72.5 strokes per round in rounds 2-3 over her first two events played this season.

Holding down the fourth spot for the Hogs is freshman Cory Lopez, who will play in her third straight event to start her collegiate career. Lopez was impressive in her debut at the BCI, collecting an 11th place finish. She finished tied for 49th at The Ally at Old Waverly.

Ximena Gonzalez will make her 2020-21 season debut at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic. The junior last played competitively at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational, where she placed 62nd.
