It's a double dip on Friday

FAYETTEVILLE – With a winter cold front moving into Northwest Arkansas this weekend, the University of Arkansas in conjunction with Washington St. have decided to play a baseball doubleheader on Friday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. and forego the scheduled contest between the two teams on Saturday.

Arkansas and Washington St. were originally slated to play one game on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but forecasted temperatures in the 20s to 30s as well as potential snow flurries prompted a change in the opening day schedule. The weekend slate now consists of a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and a Sunday afternoon game with an 11 a.m. start.

“We thought early in the week that we might be all right,” Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. “As the week went on the forecast got worse and we felt like this was the best thing to do to make sure that we got all the games in.”

Both games on Friday are scheduled for nine innings and the Razorbacks’ Dallas Keuchel is set to be the first-game starter. Junior transfer T.J. Forrest is expected to get the ball for Arkansas in game two. Arkansas’ opening day doubleheader is the first time the Razorbacks have opened with a double dip since the 1987 season when they played two against Memphis on the road. The Hogs went 1-0-1 in those two games. 2009 marks the 28th time in Arkansas’ 86-year history that it has opened the season by playing two games.
