Kaluder leads the way on day two at KSU

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Arkansas junior Ela Kaluder swept through her matches at the Kansas State Invitational.

Kaluder defeated Tulsa’s Carla Zabaleta in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, in her only singles match of the day. Kaluder and her partner Audrey Bordeleau won a pair of doubles matches. The duo opened the day with an 8-2 win over Kndsay Grimes and Carla Zabaleta of Tulsa then came back to defeat Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel of Missouri, 8-1.

Kaluder’s three wins at the No. 1 spot highlighted the day for Arkansas. The Lady’Backs took two of three doubles matches over Missouri. Mayori Franco and Nanar Airapetian defeated Raquel Ragner and Katelyn McKenzie, 8-5. Arkansas lost at No. 3 as Melissa Hoffmeister and Carly Dixon fell to the Mizzou pair of Kaitlin Dunham and Chrissy Svetlic, 8-2.

Airapetian and Hoffmeister each won singles matches with Tulsa. Airapetian defeated Marta Marcinkowska, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5. Hoffmeister won in a bonus match over Nora Kuruc, 6-2, 6-2. Dixon also picked up a singles win in bonus play over Julie Westfall of Tulsa, 6-4, 6-1.

Mayori Franco lost a tough three-setter at No. 2 singles to Tulsa’s Kindsay Grimes, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Franco teamed with Airapetian but came up short against the Tulsa team of Santie Delport and Marta Marcinkowska, 8-3. Tulsa also got the win at third doubles 8-5 as Julie Westfall and Agostina Santoro defeated Rachel Wilhelm and Stacia Corziscaia.

Wilhelm lost at fourth singles to Thalia Diaz-Barriga of Tulsa, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Corzirscaia fell to Santoro, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6.
