Kushner Named SEC Freshman Diver of the Year

FAYETTEVILLE-University of Arkansas freshman diver Brieanne Kushner was named Southeastern Conference Freshman Diver of the Year, the conference office announced Friday, April 22.

Kushner, a Thunder Bay, Ontario native, had a successful season for the Lady Razorbacks as she narrowly missed qualifying for nationals when she finished ninth on the one-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone ‘D’ Diving Championships.

At the conference meet, Kushner scored in all three events with a 10th-place finish on the three meter highlighting her first SEC meet.

Arkansas head swimming coach Anne Goodman James said she is excited about Kushner’s contributions to the Lady’Back squad in her first year at Arkansas.

“This is a great honor for Brie,” Goodman James said. “She is a very talented diver and has a great future ahead of her in the SEC.”

Arkansas diving coach Scott Reich echoed Goodman James’ comments as he sees the potential for further success for Kushner.

“I think it’s great,” Reich said. “She’s going to get better. If she stays on course, I think she’s going to have a successful collegiate career.”
