Lady'Back softball travels to Stillwater for Border War

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team takes a break from Southeastern Conference play and travels to Stillwater, Okla., for the Border War with Oklahoma State and Tulsa, Thursday, March 29. The Lady Razorbacks (12-30, 0-10) face the Golden Hurricane (17-18, 3-5) at 3 p.m. and the Cowgirls (21-19, 0-2) at 7 p.m. “We’re looking forward to the Border War,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “It’s just a fun rivalry when we all get together and play. It also gives the Oklahoma players an opportunity to play at home two out of three years.” The Lady’Backs enter Thursday’s contests losing their last seven games, five of which were against the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation. Arkansas dropped its last two games to Auburn Tuesday, by scores of 5-0 and 3-2. “It’ll be good to step out of conference play Thursday,” said Pinkerton. Freshman Jessica Bachkora continues to lead the Lady’Backs with a .323 batting average, 41 hits, seven doubles and a .368 on-base percentage. Tulsa comes into Stillwater in after dropping a three-game series to Central Florida over the weekend. UCF and TU split Saturday’s doubleheader before the Golden Hurricane suffered from four errors and fell 7-1 Sunday. Oklahoma State defeated Wichita State Tuesday, 4-0, and lost two games to Kansas over the weekend. The Cowgirls and the Hurricane also met last week, with OSU pounding out seven extra-base hits for the 13-4 six-inning run rule. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series against Arkansas 3-2, while the Lady’Backs are 8-5 against Tulsa. In the Border War last year, Arkansas dropped both games losing 4-7 against the Hurricane and 1-8 versus the Cowgirls. For more information about Arkansas softball, please log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
