Lady'Backs continue fall season

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team hosts its third fall tournament Sunday at Lady’Back Yard. The Lady Razorbacks welcome Crowder College, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Northeastern State University. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. with Crowder taking on NEO. Arkansas plays its first game of the day at 11 a.m. against NEO. The Lady’Backs face Crowder at 5 p.m. and Northeastern State at 7 p.m. Admission is free to the public. “It’s a pretty good field this weekend,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “We want to be able to mix up the lineup, give some of our newcomers experience and get good repetition in for our young pitchers.” Arkansas comes into the weekend 6-0 with a .333 team batting average. Sophomore Sandra Smith leads the team hitting .583 with seven hits, four doubles, one home run and nine RBIs. Sophomore Jessica Bachkora adds 10 hits, nine runs and five stolen bases. The Lady’Back pitching staff combined for a 0.58 ERA and 50 strikeouts in just 36.1 innings pitched. Senior Katy Henry tallies 26 K’s and two wins, while sophomore Miranda Dixon has three wins. “We really want to continue building on what we’ve already done in the fall,” Pinkerton said. “We’re looking forward to getting back out Sunday after coming off of a pretty strong weekend.” The Lady’Backs defeated Texarkana (4-1), NEO (10-2) and Tulsa (2-1) last weekend. “Our goal is to find out who we are and what roles certain players are going to play,” said Pinkerton. “We have a good idea of what we have and what most of the players can do; it’s just a matter of putting the pieces together and building on each week to have some momentum to go into the spring season.” For more information about Arkansas softball, please log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
