Lady'Backs open SEC play at home with South Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team hosts South Carolina this weekend in its Southeastern Conference opener. The three-game series begins with a doubleheader at Lady’Back Yard Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Arkansas (10-14) continues its 12-game home stretch and enters SEC play on a three-game winning streak, its longest of the season. The Lady Razorbacks defeated Northern Iowa and Louisiana-Monroe this past Sunday en route to a win at their own Arkansas Invitational. Tuesday, the Lady’Backs defeated North Texas 7-3.

This young team is starting to play well and this weekend is a crucial opening series,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “It would be great for us to get off to a good start in conference play, especially because our next two SEC games are on the road.”

South Carolina improved to 20-3 after sweeping a midweek doubleheader against Coastal Carolina. The Gamecocks defeated Coastal 2-1 and 1-0 for its victories.

USC leads the all-time series 18-9 and won the last doubleheader in Columbia in 2006, 3-0, 1-0.

The Gamecocks are led by Ashton Payne who has a team-high 24 hits and .369 batting average.

Freshman Jessica Bachkora continues to lead the Lady’Backs with a .387 batting average. She has a team-high 29 hits, five doubles, two triples, and 12 stolen bases.
