Lady'Backs say farewell to the 2008 seniors on Sunday

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas Lady Razorbacks play their final regular season women’s basketball game this Sunday at 2 p.m.

Arkansas, 17-9, takes on the Kentucky Wildcats, 13-13, in a game that has serious Southeastern Conference Tournament seeding implications.

It also is the Senior Day for the three Lady’Back players and one manager. Before tipoff, the Lady’Backs salute manager Trudi Spencer along with players Lauren Ervin, Sarah Pfeifer and Brittney Vaughn.

Ervin saw her Arkansas career cut short in January with an ACL tear against LSU in the SEC season opener.

Pfeifer has seen her share of injuries, and was granted an extra year to complete her four-year career. In her six years at Arkansas, Pfeifer suffered two season-ending injuries and a total of five surgeries.

Vaughn is the only senior player with a full four seasons at Arkansas. She became only the sixth player in school history to have over 400 assists.

For the two teams, a win is important toward seeding. The Wildcats are 7-5 in SEC play, and trying to secure one of the four opening round byes by finishing in the top four in the SEC. Kentucky needs to win out its final two games to stay in contention.

Arkansas at 2-9 needs the win to break out of a disadvantage at 10th place. Arkansas and South Carolina are tied for 10th, but USC has the tiebreaker. The Arkansas win will give it a chance at the 10th seed.
