Lady'Backs Set Best Times at SEC Meet

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.,- The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team posted season-best times on the third day of the Southeastern Conference Championship meet, Friday, Feb. 17, in Knoxville, Tenn.

Lady Razorback swimming head coach Anne Goodman James said she was pleased with the team’s improvement at the conference meet. Currently, Arkansas is in ninth-place in the team standings.

“Friday we had some ups and downs,” she said. “It was full of season best swims, and a big lifetime best performance by (sophomore) Tifanie Silver in the 100 back.”

In the 100 back, junior Mariann Fulop led the Lady’Backs with a 20th-place finish. Silver followed with 24th, freshman Dashya Kimmel was 26th and senior Angela Kora finished 28th.

Goodman James said she was also happy with the relay that finished eighth, the best relay finish for the team in the conference meet.

“Then we came back in the 400-medley relay finals, and all four swimmers went faster than in the prelims and right at their best times. I was very proud of Mariann (Fulop), (freshman) Elizabeth (Engs), (junior) Kristen (Thibodeaux) and (freshman) Summer (Jackson) for their outstanding relay splits, and for putting it all together.”

In the 100 breaststroke, Engs finished 21st while freshman Lonnie Strange took 28th with Jackson and Thibodeaux 26th and 28th, respectively, in the 100 fly.

Freshman Emily Fletcher was 22nd in the 400 individual medley and freshman Macey Webb was 36th in the 200 freestyle.
