Lady'Backs Set Season Best Times in Relays
GAINESVILLE, Fla.-The University of Arkansas swimming team finished day one of the Southeastern Conference Championships in Gainesville, Fla., with season and lifetime best marks in the relay events.
The Lady Razorback 200-medley relay team of senior Hannah Clegg, sophomore Molly Muck, freshman Emily Gregory and senior Zsuzsa Csobanki finished sixth with a season best time.
Head coach Anne Goodman James said she was pleased with the Lady’Back performances on the first day of competition.
“The 200-medley relay dropped nearly three seconds from their previous best time led by lifetime best splits from Emily Gregory in the fly and Molly Muck in the breaststroke,” Goodman James said.
Sophomore Mariann Fulop, senior Whitney Lynn, freshman Katie Borkovec and senior Lisa Petry set a season best time in the 800-freestyle relay as the Lady’Backs took eighth place.
Goodman James said she was very impressed with the accomplishments of the relay teams that scored for the Lady’Backs.
“The 800-freestyle relay truly stepped up dropping their time by six seconds,” Goodman James said. “That is huge. Mariann and Whitney went their best times of the season, but the real standout was Lisa Petry swimming the anchor leg with an amazing split, which was two full seconds faster than her lifetime best time.”
Goodman James said she was happy with how the Arkansas squad compared to conference competition with the Florida and Georgia relays setting NCAA, SEC, U.S. Open and pool records.
“Although the relays are not our strong point this year, the relays really held their own against the best in the country,” Goodman James said.
The conference meet continues Thursday at 9 a.m. with the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and 400-medley relay events.
Goodman James said she expects the Lady’Backs to have a productive day as the Arkansas seniors lead the way for the crew. “Thursday is a big day for us with some of our best events,” Goodman James said. “We look for Whitney Lynn in the 500 and Zsuzsa Csobanki to do big things in the 50 free.”
