Lady'Backs Tied in Red-White Meet

FAYETTEVILLE-The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team finished with a 52-52 tie in the Red-White meet held inside the Arkansas Natatorium. Head coach Anne Goodman James said she was pleased with the outcome of the Red-White meet. “I was really impressed with their competitiveness and their spirit, things that will serve us well in every meet this season.” The Lady Razorbacks added 10 newcomers to the squad this season and they have made an immediate impact. Goodman James said the divers should play a huge role for the Lady’Backs this year. “It’s very exciting to see all of our freshmen divers in a competitive setting and they are good,” she said. “They will be a major part of our success this season.” Freshman Tori Kennedy took both the one-and three-meter events for the Red squad. In the other end of the pool, the 100 fly was the most contested event of the meet with the top three times within tenths of each other. “I was very impressed with the toughness demonstrated by freshman Emily Gregory as she pulled out the win in that event over Zsuzsa Csobanki and Mariann Fulop,” Goodman James said. Gregory won the event (58.27) and she was also a member of the 400-free relay, which the Red team won. After a second place finish in the 100 fly, Csobanki took the 50 free (23.95) for the White team. “It was so very impressive to see Zsuzsa Csobanki go a 23 in the 50 freestyle this early in the year” Goodman James said. Senior Whitney Lynn won both the 200 (1:58.30) and 500 free (5:12.59), while senior Hannah Clegg took top honors in the 100 back (59:27) for the Red squad. The Lady’Backs return to the water as they open the season against Drury University Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. For more information on Arkansas swimming and diving, log on to www.ladybacks.com.
