Lewis Strong; Plasencia & Lopez Miss Cut

LANCASTER, Pa. – Former University of Arkansas All-American Stacy Lewis fired a second-round 67 while current Razorbacks Regina Plasencia and Gabriela Lopez shot 71 and 76, respectively, in second round action at the U.S. Women’s Open in Lancaster, Pa., Friday.

Lewis improved on her first round, one-under 69 with a three-under 67 and is tied for second with a two-day 136, just three strokes off the lead.

The Woodlands, Texas, native opened with birdies on the second, fourth and sixth holes starting strong. She bogeyed the ninth and 14th holes but a strong finish saw Lewis birdie the 15th and 17th holes coming in.

Plasencia carded a one-over 71 to pair with her first round 75 for 146 and a tie for 70th overall.  Another solid start for the Guadalajara, Mexico, native included five consecutive par holes before a pair of bogeys on the sixth and ninth holes to turn two-over.

Plasencia rallied with a birdie on 10, followed by back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes as she moved to one-under on the day.  She finished with a pair of bogeys in the final four holes shooting 71 on the day.

Lopez posted a six-over 76 and is tied for 90th place with 148 (72-76).  The Mexico City, Mexico, native turned plus-three and added three more on the back nine to finish her round.

Neither Plasencia nor Lopez made the cut to continue play.
