Lewis competes at Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic this week

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas junior Stacy Lewis competes at the 2007 Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic in Sylvania, Ohio, this week. This is Lewis’ second consecutive sponsor’s exemption to the event which takes place Thursday-Sunday at Highland Meadows Golf Club. Lewis participated in the event last year as one of the two sponsor exemption players at the event. "We’re very proud of Stacy and all that she’s done," said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes. "Stacy learns from each experience and seems to get better every time she plays. Taking part in events like this only makes her a better golfer." This year’s field features 144 players for 72 holes of stroke play with the top 72 players (plus ties) making the cut. Lewis’ spring and summer has been packed with events and successes. After earning her third consecutive first-time all-Southeastern Conference honor, Lewis went on to bring home the college national championship with the 2007 NCAA title in Daytona Beach, Fla. She also won the Dinah Shore Trophy and brought home her third consecutive all-America honor. Lewis went on to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America as well as being named to the National Golf Coaches Association all-scholar team. As her collegiate career gave way to her summer amateur schedule, Lewis picked up where she left off winning the 2007 Southern Amateur. She followed with a second-place individual finish while helping the United States bring home top honors at the Copa de las Americas. Lewis next qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open prior to the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic. In addition to this exemption, Lewis has also earned an exemption for the State Farm Classic in late August and the LPGA Northwest Arkansas Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., in early September.
