Lewis wins again in North Carolina
PINEHURST, N.C. — University of Arkansas golfer Stacy Lewis continued her torrid play winning her second match at the 91st Women’s Southern Amateur Golf Championship in Pinehurst, N.C., Wednesday. Inclement weather suspended play Tuesday and again delayed the start on Wednesday but Lewis wasn’t bothered by the wait. The Woodlands, Texas, native downed fellow Texan Carolyn Creekmore five-and-three in the round of 16 on the par 72, 6,033-yard Dogwood Course at the Country Club of North Carolina. Lewis, a two-time all-Southeastern Conference and National Golf Coaches Association All-American, opened stroke play with a blistering 66 and defeated her first match play opponent six-and-four. Play continues with two rounds slated for Thursday. Future Lady’Back teammate Alexandrea Schulte of Broken Arrow, Okla., is also playing well. Schulte opened with a 75 in stroke play, but dropped her first match play competition to Laura Coble of Augusta, Ga., two up. Schulte came back with a default win over Nancy Mountcastle to advance. Arkansas sophomore Whitney Sylvan, playing in the consolation bracket, notched a win in her first match play action over Meredith Roberts in 20 holes. Round — (Round of 16)Championship Flight
