Linksters move up in second round

Jump to scores FAYETTEVILLE — The ninth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team shaved nine strokes off their first round total moving up to 11th after the second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., Saturday. Arkansas struggled with a first round 324 but rebounded Saturday with a 309 for a 633. Host Georgia leads the field with a 603, followed by Wake Forest (608), Auburn (612), Vanderbilt (615) and Kent State (616) in the top five. “It was better today,” said head coach Kelley Hester. “We’re moving in the right direction and right now our goal is for a top 10 finish.” Sophomore Stacy Lewis paced Arkansas with a second round 72, followed by senior Courtney Mahon with a 74. Senior Sarah Trew carded an 81, senior Lindsey Hinshaw had an 82 and senior Amanda McCurdy rounded out the Arkansas scores with an 84. Play concludes Sunday at the University of Georgia golf course.
