LSU sweeps Lady'Backs on Sunday

Baton Rouge, La. – The University of Arkansas softball team dropped the final game of a Southeastern Conference series 4-0 against LSU on Sunday at Tiger Park. Arkansas was held to three hits by LSU pitcher Cody Trahan. Trahan earned all three wins in the circle this weekend. Sophomore Jessica Bachkora, junior Whitney Cloer and sophomore Brittany Robison each singled in the contest. LSU’s Rachel Mitchell plated three of the Tigers four runs off of two home runs. The Lady Razorbacks move to 33-25 overall and 6-19 in the conference. LSU clinched a spot in the SEC Tournament and improved to 38-14 and 15-10 in league play. “You don’t have a lot of margin for error when you play the #15 team in the country,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “We weren’t clicking on all three cylinders and we didn’t catch any breaks, but we didn’t make any of our own.” Bachkora drew a walk to lead off the game. She advanced to third, but LSU had no intentions of giving up a run so early in the game. A solo home run by Mitchell got LSU out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Arkansas put a runner in scoring position again in the fourth when junior Kayla Johnson reached on an infield error and sophomore Miranda Dixon sacrificed her to second. In the fifth, Mitchell was the second batter of the inning and launched a two-run home run to right field. With one out, Killian Roessner doubled to left center and Tayl’r Sluss followed with a one-run single up the middle to increase LSU’s lead to 4-0. Trahan (15-4) threw her second shutout of the series after giving up just three hits, one walk and striking out five. Freshman Kim Jones got the nod for Arkansas and fell to 5-3 with the loss. She gave up two runs on four hits and fanned two. Arkansas travels to Springfield, Mo., Tuesday for a midweek doubleheader against Missouri State at 3 p.m. The Lady’Backs close out SEC play at home May 3-4 with Mississippi State.
