Magee wins all-around No. 11 Gym'Backs win quad

Jump to results FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas freshman Casey Jo Magee brought home the all-around title leading the No. 11 Gym’Backs to a quad meet win in Barnhill Arena Friday. Arkansas scored a 196.250, the second-best total of the year, downing No. 23 West Virginia (194.300), No. 37 Pittsburgh (193.350) and No. 30 New Hampshire (192.650). Magee is the first all-around winner of the year with a 39.275. Senior Cassie Drew finished third in the all-around with a 39.075. Junior Emily Peacock tied for the bars win, Casey Jo Magee captured the beam title and senior Rachel Barnett took home top honors on the floor for the Gym’Backs. The Gym’Backs (8-10) won their third consecutive meet behind a season-best 49.175 on the bars and Arkansas hit 25 of 25 routines for the second meet in a row. Arkansas opened the meet on the vault seeming to get squeezed a bit on the scores posting just a 48.975 in the first rotation. Magee and Stout paced the effort with 9.850s. The scoring for Arkansas got better in the next rotation with the season-high 49.175. Peacock tallied a season-best 9.90 for the win to lead the Gym’Backs. Freshman Amy DeFilippo added a season/career-best 9.850 while freshman Sarah Nagashima had a 9.825. The Gym’Backs held a commanding lead after two rotations and never struggled with the win from that point on. Arkansas scored a 49.050 on bars and a matched that with a 49.050 on bars for the victory. The beam was paced by Magee with a 9.875 while Drew, Barnett and Peacock all had 9.80s for Arkansas. The floor was equally successful on the floor behind Barnett’s event-winning 9.90. Peacock chimed in with a 9.825 while sophomore Alex LaChance had 9.80. The Gym’Backs wrapped up SEC action last week at Auburn but still have two regular season meets remaining. Arkansas travels to Arizona State Friday, followed by a final home quad meet with Missouri, Southeast Missouri and Texas Woman’s University March 23.
