Mahon eliminated on Friday

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas junior golfer Courtney Mahon was eliminated from the 29th U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship Friday. Mahon fell five-and-four to White Bluff, Tenn., native Elizabeth Dotson in a match Mahon never had the upper hand in. Dotson took an early one-up lead on the first hole, went up two on the fourth and three on the six. Mahon trailed by three at the turn and was never really able to recover. Dotson would later be eliminated by Eun Jung Lee as match play continued. Mahon was one of two Lady Razorbacks competing in this week’s event at the Swopes Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo. Teammate Amanda McCurdy also took part but was eliminated after the first day of match play. The Lady Razorbacks are coming off the best season in the program’s history re-writing nearly every school record. In addition the team made it’s first appearance at the NCAA Championship finishing tied for 11th overall with redshirt freshman Stacy Lewis earning the program’s first all-America honor. She, along with McCurdy, were also all-Southeastern Conference selections with Lewis’ first-team honor coming on the heels of her individual title at the league championship. The semifinals of today’s match play will continue into the early evening with the championship match slated for Saturday. For more information about Arkansas golf log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
