Men's Tennis Picked 6th by SEC Coaches

Preseason Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The SEC released the men’s tennis coaches’ preseason poll on Wednesday, with the Razorbacks picked to finish sixth in the conference. Last year’s champion Georgia was ranked No. 1, followed by Florida and Texas A&M.

Although Arkansas finished last in the SEC in 2015, head coach Andy Jackson sees these predictions as validation that the program is on the rise, and should be right in the thick of things this spring.

“Obviously, the SEC coaches believe we’re becoming more competitive in the conference,” said Jackson, who is in his third year leading the squad. “We know we have a lot of work to do, but I really like my team. We are eager to get started and very excited for the SEC season.”

Junior Jose Salazar led the Razorbacks with a 17-4 singles record during the fall. He capped his season with an A Back Draw finals victory in the SEC Fall Tournament at Auburn. Meanwhile, the duo of Giammarco Micolani and Mike Redlicki led the Razorbacks with a 5-0 doubles record during the fall.

The 2016 spring schedule is highlighted by 23 dual matches – 13 home and 10 away – leading into the SEC Tournament. The Razorbacks begin with a dual match against UT Arlington at Billingsley Tennis Center on Friday, Jan. 22 at 5 p.m.
