Men's cross hosts MSSU

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorback men’s cross country will open the 2009 season with a four-mile race against Missouri Southern. The gun will start at 6:30 p.m. Fri., Sept. 4 at Agri Park in Fayetteville.

Juniors Lane Boyer and Michael Chinchar have been selected captains for the 2009 season. Boyer opened the 2008 season with a race win at the Arkansas Dual. He finished in the top 10 overall and was the second Razorback to cross the finish line at the Stanford Invitational. Chinchar was a top performer for the Razorbacks posting top-20 finishes at the SEC Championships and NCAA South Central Region Championships.

Arkansas welcomes back six members of the 2008 squad that competed at the SEC, NCAA Regional and NCAA Championships including Boyer, Chinchar, junior Duncan Phillips, senior Rio Reina, and sophomores Rick Elliott and Eric Fernandez.

Head coach Chris Bucknam has brought in four freshmen for the 2009 season: Omar Abdi, Drew Butler, Cameron Efurd and Solomon Haile.

The Razorbacks will open the schedule with a low-key home meet, travel to Joplin, Mo. for the MSSU Stampede Sept. 19, venture to Madison, Wis. for the Wisconsin Invitational Oct. 3 and then run the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville (Oct. 17).

The championship season begins with SECs in Oxford, Miss. Oct. 31, the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Waco, Texas Nov. 14. It all culminates with the NCAA Championships Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
