Nkosinza Balumbu wins triple jump

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field ended competition at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. The Hogs picked up another win and another regional qualifier on day two of the event.

Competing less than thirty minutes from his hometown (Union City, Calif.), senior Nkosinza Balumbu won the invitational flight of the triple jump. His best jump of the day measured 52-9.25. Taking five of his six allowed jumps, four of the five were longer than the regional-qualifying mark (49-2.5).

At Friday night’s distance carnival, Shawn Forrest won the top section of the 5,000 meters. He clocked an NCAA- and SEC-leading time of 13:28.81. James Strang punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in June in Fayetteville, Ark. with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000 meters and a time of 28:29.27.

Lane Boyer also picked up an NCAA mark in the 10,000 meters. He finished 10th in the second section of the event with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 29:07.02. Andy McClary ran the top section of the 1,500 meters and finished eighth with a regional-qualifying time of 3:45.42.

Earlier on Friday, Mychael Stewart won the invitational flight of the long jump with a regional-qualifying mark of 24-9.75. He also competed in the 100 meters, clocking a prelim time of 10.67 and 10.70. He finished third in the 100-meter final.
