No. 3 Arkansas in the Podium Hunt at Nationals

NCAA Postseason Supplement

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Arkansas women’s cross country team heads into the final meet of the season as one of the 31 programs competing for a spot on the podium at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The Razorbacks were last among the top-four teams at the 1999 meet, where they finished second behind BYU with a score of 125 points.

In their last two meets, Arkansas coasted to back-to-back first place finishes, scoring 38 and 40 points at the SEC and NCAA South Central Regional Championships, respectively. Two-time All-American Dominique Scott was the individual leader in both races posting two sub-20 performances to collect the conference and regional crowns.

Last season, Arkansas raced to a fifth-place team finish at the cross country national meet. Three Razorbacks, including Scott, finished among the top40 while Arkansas’ final two finishers crossed the line inside the top75. Georgetown finished just 20 points ahead of the Razorbacks to claim the last podium spot with a score of 189.

During his tenure at Arkansas, head coach Lance Harter has guided the program to 10 NCAA top-10 finishes, four of which were for second place. Since 1991, 14 of Harter’s student-athletes have earned 26 All-American honors within cross country. Prior to Scott’s 28th place finish in 2013, Kristen Gillespie was the last Razorback to earn that status with a 23rd place finish at the 2011 national championships.

No. 3 Arkansas and No. 1 New Mexico are the only two teams that return back to the top-five from the 2014 season. The remaining teams in the top-five include No. 2 Colorado, No. 4 Providence and No. 5 Oregon.

The women’s 6K will kick off at 11 a.m. CST with the men’s 10K following at 12 p.m. Awards will follow for the top four teams in the field. Runners who finish among the top-40 will receive All-American honors.

The NCAA will be livestreaming the event starting at 10:55 a.m. CST on NCAA.com.
