FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In its first step of qualifying for the national meet, the No. 6 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team competes this weekend at the 2015 NCAA West Preliminary. Beginning Thursday, the preliminary event is being hosted May 28-30 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Razorbacks have 16 total qualifiers and will be represented by 10 student-athletes in 11 evens along with both relay teams.

The top-12 qualifiers in each event from the two preliminary meets advance to compete June 10-13 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The NCAA East Preliminary is also being contested this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. In Tuesday’s release of the USTFCCCA national poll, the Razorback men are down one spot to No. 6 based solely on qualifiers for this weekend’s preliminary meets.

Arkansas’ entries are headlined by Kemoy Campbell (5,000m), Andrew Irwin (pole vault), Stanley Kebenei (steeplechase) and Omar McLeod (110mH) who are all the region’s top-ranked performers in their respective events. Campbell, Kebenei, Jarrion Lawson and Devin Randall are set to compete in two events at the NCAA West Preliminary. See full list below of entries and their schedules.

The team has multiple entries in three events. Campbell and Kebenei are both slated to compete at 5,000 meters while Kebenei will be joined in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by Frankline Tonui. In the field events, the Razorbacks have a pair of qualifiers in the triple jump with Clive Pullen and Rubin Owens. Six of the Razorbacks’ qualifying marks were recorded in the team’s last outing at the SEC Outdoor Championships.

The Razorbacks are one of 12 top-25 competing at this weekend’s NCAA West Preliminary including five top-10 teams. Sixth-ranked Arkansas is joined in the West by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 4 Oregon, No. 5 USC, host and No. 9 Texas, No. 12 Texas Tech, No. 14 Baylor, No. 18 Illinois, No. 19 BYU, No. 20 Oklahoma State, No. 21 Stanford and No. 22 Kansas State. Arkansas is also one of three SEC teams in the field with Texas A&M and Missouri.

In addition to its preliminary entries, Arkansas has already secured one spot at the NCAA Championships with Nathanael Franks in the decathlon. The Razorback senior qualified for the national meet with his season-best performance of 7,343 points in a fourth-place finish at the SEC Championships. This marks Franks’ second NCAA appearance having qualified previously in 2013.
