No. 6 @RazorbackTF Men Host Arkansas Spring Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 6 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team opens its outdoor season by hosting the Arkansas Spring Invitational this weekend at John McDonnell Field. After Friday’s hammer throw competition, the full schedule will be contested Saturday with field events at 10:30 a.m. (CT) and running events starting at 1:30 p.m.

The Arkansas Spring Invitational is the first of three home outdoor meets this spring in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks will also host the John McDonnell Invitational (April 10-11) and Arkansas Twilight (May 1).

Indoor All-Americans Kenzo Cotton, Andrew Irwin and Marqueze Washington are scheduled to compete Saturday afternoon, along with both 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays. In the initial USTFCCCA poll of the outdoor season the Razorbacks were ranked sixth in the country. Based on its efforts during the cross country and indoor seasons, Arkansas enters the outdoor season in fifth place in the John McDonnell Program of the Year standings.

This weekend’s home opener will also feature competitors from Drake, Missouri State, No. 13 Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, South Dakota State, Tulsa and Wichita State. Iowa Central and Arkansas Baptist, ranked sixth and 17th in the NJCAA poll, will also be part of the field.

The outdoor postseason begins May 14-16 with the SEC Championships in Starkville, Miss., followed by the NCAA West Preliminary on May 27-30 in Austin. National qualifiers will then compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.
