No. 3 Arkansas Lists Seven on the South Central All-Region Team
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Arkansas cross country, after winning its 17th-straight South Central Regional title, jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 in the USTFCCCA weekly poll, it was announced on Tuesday. For their efforts, seven Razorbacks were named to the All-South Central Region team.
To be considered for the all-region team, athletes must finish in the top 25 of their region and meet NCAA Division I Cross Country Coaches Association requirements.
Seven Arkansas runners finished in the top 19 at the South Central Regional to earn all-region honors: Peter Kosgei, Shawn Forrest, Seth Summerside, Kenny Cormier, Scott MacPherson, Tyler Hill and Adam Perkins.
Wisconsin is the top-ranked team in the final USTFCCCA men’s poll heading into Monday’s NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Colorado sits at No. 2, Iona is ranked fourth and Oregon rounds out the top five.
While the Badgers have been ranked No. 1 throughout the season, three other teams have more all-region performers. In addition to the Razorbacks’ seven awards, Mountain Region champion Colorado and Southeast Region winner North Carolina State each had six athletes earn all-region accolades.
The Razorbacks scored 24 points en route to the regional title win. The No. 21 Texas Longhorns, also earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, were second with a team score of 51 points. Lamar, ranked No. 3 in the South Central Region, rounded out the top three with 96 points. Arkansas finished five of its scorers in the top ten and all seven of its harriers in the top 19.
The Razorbacks have won 17-consecutive NCAA South Central titles since 1990 and 28 of 29 South Central Championships awarded since 1978 (The loss came in 1989). Arkansas harriers have won 18 individual NCAA South Central Regional titles. The last came in 2004 from Josphat Boit who clocked a time of 29:43 to win the event.
