No. 6 Arkansas golf tied for 13th after first round

FAYETTEVILLE – The sixth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team cared a first round 294 and is tied for 13th overall at the UCF Invitational in Sonnoma, Fla., Sunday.

Stacy Lewis paced the Lady Razorbacks with a two-under 70 on the par 72, 6,356-yard RedTail Golf Club. Lewis was even through 15 holes and birdied 16 and 17 to drop to two-under for the day. Lewis was tied for ninth place after the first day.

Freshman Kelli Shean also played well finishing at one-under with a 71. Shean played the front nine at two-under but picked up a stroke on the back side of the golf course finishing the day in a tie for 15th place.

Junior Lucy Nunn posted a four-over 76 followed by sophomore Kristin Ingram who shot a plus-five 77. Senior Whitney Sylvan rounded out the Arkansas scores with a six-over 78.

Duke’s Alison Whitaker leads the field with a seven-under 65. Another player of note, Duke’s Amanda Blumenhurst, is tied for fourth overall with a first round 69.

Third-ranked Southern California leads the field of 18 after one round counting a seven-under 281. Top-ranked Duke is close behind with a 282, followed by No. 18 Pepperfine with a 285. Second-ranked ULCA and No. 16 Oklahoma State are tied in fourth with a 286 with No. 12 Pudue and No. 11 Georgia tied for sixth with 289. Number 29 LSU is eighth followed by No. 7 Auburn, N o. 49 Central Florida and No. 5 Florida all tied at ninth.
