Palmer named to SEC Community Service Team

FAYETTEVILLEUniversity of Arkansas junior Madison Palmer was named to the 2008 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Community Service Team, the league announced today.

Palmer received the award for her outstanding community service efforts.

“This is a terrific honor for Madison and a true testament to her hard work and dedication to be the best person she can be in and out of the pool,” said head coach Jeff Poppell.

Palmer’s community service efforts include traveling to Honduras with AAO, volunteering for the Panama City Outreach with Christ on Campus, visiting the Arkansas Cancer Ward in Little Rock, working the AAO Christmas outreach program at Locomotion every year, and volunteering at the spring gathering sponsored by AAO for underprivileged children to spend time with Arkansas athletes.

The Olathe, Kan. native also served as a swim coach for Pinnacle Penguins and Sweat Hogs and she is involved with a sixth grade classroom where she helps the teacher help the children learn.

Palmer is a 2008 honorable mention All-American on the one meter springboard, earned eight wins this season and holds the school record on the one meter.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
