Postseason Play Begins for W. Golf

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 8 University of Arkansas women’s golf team begins postseason play this weekend taking part in the 2016 Southeastern Conference Championship in Hoover, Alabama, April 15-17.

For the fourth consecutive season, the league championship takes place at Greystone Golf and Country Club on the Legacy Course. This is the Razorbacks’ 21st appearance at the SEC Championship since adding women’s golf for the 1995-96 season.

Making the trip is senior Regina Plasencia, junior Summar Roachell, sophomore Alana Uriell and freshmen Cara Gorlei and Maria Fassi.

Fassi graduated high school early and joined the Razorbacks in January. She leads the team with a 72.20 stroke average through 10 rounds played. Plasencia is next checking in with a 73.50 stroke average followed by Uriell at 73.95. All five players have extensive golf experience in big events.

Always a tough field, the SEC is loaded with six top-25 teams this year. Alabama moved to the No. 1 spot in the in the Golfstat.com rankings for April 6. They are followed by No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Florida, No.8 Arkansas, No. 21 South Carolina and No. 24 Texas A&M in the top-25.

The rest of the field includes No. 57 Auburn, No. 76 Kentucky, No. 48 LSU, No. 61 Mississippi State, No. 33 Missouri, No. 105 Ole Miss, No. 27 Tennessee and No. 36 Vanderbilt.
